What Are Managed IT Services?

A managed IT service provider (MISP) provides services such as network monitoring, backup, and maintenance to help businesses manage their technology more efficiently. These services are typically provided by a third party who has training to perform these tasks.

Why Do You Need Them?

Businesses need managed IT services because they provide a number of benefits, including:

  1. Allowing companies to focus on running their business instead of managing their technology
  2. Reducing the cost of maintaining and upgrading technology
  3. Ensuring that technology is available when needed
  4. Offering 24/7 support for employees
  5. Making sure that technology is secure

What Types Of Services Can Be Offered?

There are a few main categories of managed IT services: all-inclusive, outsourced help desk, cloud computing, and managed hosting. All-inclusive packages can vary from provider to provider and typically include help desk services, 24/7 network monitoring, security checks, hardware maintenance, and more. While outsourced help desk services are typically an off-shore service for a monthly fee.

Cloud computing refers to using software hosted by third parties rather than having servers at your own location. This type of service allows businesses to access their data and applications remotely via the Internet. It also provides them with more flexibility and scalability.

Managed hosting refers to providing computers, storage devices, networking equipment, and other hardware and software to customers. These services are typically provided through a reseller who has its own network of facilities. A reseller will often use a combination of both cloud computing and managed hosting to meet the needs of its clients.

Both cloud computing and managed hosting provide companies with the ability to scale up and down as needed. However, there are some key differences between these two solutions. With managed hosting, the customer owns the server and has full control over it. In contrast, cloud computing gives the customer access to a virtualized environment where they can run multiple operating systems simultaneously.
Cloud computing also offers greater security because it uses remote servers instead of local ones. Finally, cloud computing is less expensive than managed hosting because it does not require the purchase of additional hardware.

What’s The Difference Between Managed IT Services and Other Solutions?

Full-service managed IT providers can provide companies with local IT help at a reasonable cost. For those who frequently have IT-related questions and need help desk tickets resolved quickly, this option is recommended. Local providers also have the capability to do site visits for more complex problems or to do routine checks on hardware.

Other options for managed IT services include in-house IT professionals, off-shore sourcing, or one-service providers. Large-scale, highly confidential organizations that require advanced security in-house typically hire in-house professionals.

Overall, managed IT services may or may not be right for your unique business. Based on our experience working across many industries since 1991, we have developed a few resources to help you decide whether it is the best option for you.
